More DCA Budget Bad News – Act Now

On the things just keep getting worse front…

A motion has been placed on the agenda to eliminate the 1% of the transient occupancy tax (hotel tax) that currently is reserved for arts and cultural programs – the Department of Cultural Affairs budget.  This is a direct move to undermine the prime source of revenue that supports the Department of Cultural Affairs.  If this is removed, the City has no legal obligation to fund the department whatsoever.

View Motion #56 here.

This motion was presented by councilmembers Eric Garcetti, Jan Perry, Dennis Zine, Bernard Parks and Greig Smith and seconded by Paul Krekorian.  You can contact the offices of these councilmembers using the links and phone numbers below.  You can still write letters via the Arts for LA page, too.

Hey Marshall – good to see you in Chambers today. I was pretty surprised to hear you speak so highly of Olga, the only responses I’ve ever received from her are automated out of office replies. I could also go on about the lack of teamwork I’ve seen in CAD but now’s not the time. Although I’m against eliminating CAD, I am definitely for addressing the dysfunction within it. In any case, there’s lots of work to be done, and if Olga can leverage CAD funds to raise two million for the Guadalagara project, maybe she can roll up her sleeves and start addressing the needs of her programs here at home. Best – Mario
