The artblog world is in a Deitch tizzy, the uncertainty of the moment blowing the speculation index through the roof. Fun to read, but ultimately, unless MOCA pulls a giant “just kidding!”, we’ll all just have to sit on our hands and see how this whole thing turns out. Maybe it’s because the LA museum world is so un-spectacle oriented (unless you’re part of a disconnected elite that goes to MOCA’s parties) that the ripples from this seem much larger than they actually are.
Regardless, the above is your Deitch of the Day, coming in via C-Monster (who has all the Deitch round up that you need) and Gallery Beat. In today’s episode, MOCA’s new director (at 4:19 or so ) briefly opines on the abstract qualities of Beth B’s “pussy portraits” from her 1996 exhibition Portraits and Playthings at Deitch Projects. Note the video was shot by “I see nude people” Spencer Tunick, a nice touch.
