Many, many of them are rental galleries, as it's quite normal in South Korea for MFAs and recent MFAs to rent spaces to exhibit their work, so it's really hard to know what the pedigree of any show is - if the artist has rented the space, or if they are being curated into the space. I'd advise you to check out the Artsonje Center (http://www.artsonje.org/eng/) near Anguk station. There's great food and art in that area, a lot of contemporary galleries, and the local gallery guides that you can pick up at Artsonje should get you covered.
