I’m a night’s sleep and a few hours away from shipping out from what has been an incredibly busy, but far too short trip to Seoul. I leave tomorrow morning which is the 8th here, to arrive via the miracle of the International Date Line back in LA on that same 8th, bright and early in the morning so I can make it to the gallery for the Melting Point artist talk. It’s like owning a DeLorean with a Mr. Fusion and working flux capacitor. I’ll be joined by George Geyer and Tom McMillin, an incredible pair of artists who for this exhibition have revisited the elementally transformative theme of one of the most amazing pieces of installation and sculpture that I’ve ever been in the same freezing room with. Talk is December 8 at 1pm, on campus parking is $2.
If you’ve ever wanted to hear me explain myself, my motives and practice, this is your opportunity. My installation for the exhibition is everything I ever wanted anything to be and more, and my combination of jet lag, personal ebullience for the piece and my awesome powers of ranting and rambling will combine into a Voltron of a talk that will literally slay crappy 1980′s anime monsters with a laser sword, or more likely a 10′ long poyester resin sword, since I’ll have a pair of those on hand and ready to go if anything gets out of control. Or something along those lines… If you’re reading this, and you haven’t seen either the show or my piece in it, I’d love to for you to be there. If you’ve already seen it, come and needle me with your questions, thoughts, observations and accusations.
