Man, I’ve been busy, so I’ll keep this short. And the sword part of Ragnarok Supply is pretty, pretty boring to look at right now. Above, that’s the sword after being removed from the painting contraption and primered. Here it’s basically in a pale blue candy shell, both visually and to the touch. But it needed a lot of love to be perfect for the moldmaking process.
Above – After adding some last minute touch ups of bondo to catch low spots in the piece and the paint, the whole sword gets a light spray of black lacquer, to use as a guide coat for sanding. The basic idea here is to remove the guide coat, some of the blue primer layers, but to not go through the white. As you sand, the remaining black highlights and isolates low spots in the surface that need to be blended in.
Above – Sanded down to 600. Starting at 80, and stopping at 180, 320 and 400, the whole piece is hand sanded. Looks pretty much the same from a distance, but the surfaces is smooth as glass and the lines are straight and sharp. Now it’s ready to be made into a mold.
