Melting Point Reception Tomorrow + Artscene Preview

If you go to only one art reception between 7-9 pm on December 1, 2009 at El Camino College Art Gallery, do me a favour and make it Melting Point.  My installation, Ragnarok Supply, is up, installed and beautiful, probably the most coherent thing I’ve done in my scattershot career as an artist.  [...]

Performance Art in LA Now Has a Blog of its Own

Perhaps surprisingly, there aren’t any performance art blogs out there that I know of. Sure lots of artblogs cover performance art, but none cover it exclusively. Carol Cheh, a friend who is a LA-based writer and curator has remedied this vacuum by starting Another Righteous Transfer, a new blog covering LA’s currently vibrant performance [...]

You, Me, Finishing School, Venice

Finishing School have just announced their upcoming project, We Will Always Have Venice, with the above teaser video.  I’ll be there, will you?  They describe the project thusly:

We Will Always Have Venice is a new participatory project framed as a series of collateral actions deployed in and around the 2011 Venice Biennale. [...]

Melting Point Opens Today! Reception December 1

Melting Point, the exhibition at El Camino College Art Gallery that is the current home to my installation Ragnarok Supply, opens today.  The reception is Tuesday, December 1, from 7-9pm.  We finished installing the piece on Saturday night, and it’s exactly what I intended it to be.  I still can’t believe that my [...]

The District Reviews Plain and Simple

I haven’t got a paper copy in my hot little hands yet, but Vy Pham from The District Weekly has reviewed Plain and Simple, one of the two shows that we’re currently showing at Angels Gate, and it’s also available online for your pleasure.

Ragnarok Supply Studio Report #8

It’s not all just molds and swords, you know. The installation also contains a site specific wall painting that will go opposite the swords, which contains more swords. Above, it’s in process. Anyways, off to cast a sword today…

Photos from the whole boondoggle are in the Flickr [...]

Ragnarok Supply Studio Report #7

Big update. No real time to post, but lots of stuff has gone on with the sword. We’ve completed the mold and are going to be pouring the pieces on Tuesday and Thursday. Contact me if you’d like to come help, as it takes a lot of hands to pour one of these babies, [...]

El Hombre Invisible

My dear friend Edith Abeyta re-staged William Burroughs shooting of his wife Joan for the Tropico de Nopal 2009 Calavera Fashion Show, starring Tom Jennings and Joshua Stehlik in the parts of Bill and Joan, respectively. The whole thing is amazing – kudos to all involved. Video by Youtuber tomicdesu.

Ragnarok Supply Studio Report #6

Moldmaking is hard and involved. The process we’re using is based on auto body techniques and not for the lazy, impatient or inaccurate. It’s a steep learning curve and a crash course. It’s awesome. It doesn’t leave one a lot of time to post about it on the internet.

It’s not all swords and respirators for me these days, I’m still busy as ever over at AGCC, where we’re having a very busy Sunday. Cross-posted from the AGCC Blog.

Sunday is shaping up to be a busy day at the Cultural Center, with two gallery openings, a free pancake breakfast and the [...]
