Word on the blog-o-street (NY Times & Metroblogging LA) is that Sarah Jessica Parker (insert question as to her art world relevance here) and Magical Elves, the folks who brought us Top Chef and Project Runway, are about to unleash an unnamed Bravo series that aimed at visual artists. Now, the whole idea seems dorky to me (and didn’t Deitch basically do this a couple years back?), basically because I’m not keen on art being boiled down to “who’s the best”, or “who’s the best under the non-reality circumstances of a reality show”, and because I think the field and the working methods of artists are too broad for anything other than an incredibly awkward, asymmetrical competition. But I’m sure we’ll all be watching it regardless.
Cattle call for artists will be held in LA on July 11 & 12, no real details on what’s involved and where, though. Get ready for your macaroni snowman quickfire challenges, boys and girls.
