Yong Sin has rapidly become one of my favourite people in the whole world. Her complete and total dedication to her work, coupled with her absolutely raw and uncompromising nature impresses the hell out of me and endears me to her. Her new show at Andrewshire opened last Saturday, and the work is totally amazing. I’m curating a two person show with Yong and Betsy Lohrer Hall that will open this fall at Angels Gate (both Yong and Betsy revel in repetition in their work), and I can’t wait to work with her and being her into my gallery.
Above – I’m not sure how these pieces are made, but damn, that’s some seriously tiny work there. If there’s one hallmark of Yong’s work, it’s a spectacular attention and dedication to detail.
Above – One of several “sketch-like” pieces on display in a side room at the Gallery.
Above – this piece, and several like it, must really be seen in person. Just incredibly clean work here. The paint is applied so evenly and cleanly that it almost seems mechanical, just too crisp for human hands.
Above – artists Nicholas Klemek and S. Ian Song at the opening.
