I’m kind of busy with Post-Post-Apocalypse this weekend, so that’s a lot of me on this list. But there’s other non-me stuff if you’re tired of my stuff, too.
Thursday, January 15
Post-Post-Apocalypse: Michael Lewis Miller’s 5th Apocalyptic Birthday Bash @ The Loft. Michael is trying to assemble 50 cakes for his not 50th birthday. So bring a cake and get fat on a variety of cakes. Can you beat that? Starts at 7:30 PM.
Intense Situations of Peril: San Diego: Redux @ {open}. Featuring Glenn Bach, shea M gauer, Lewis Keller, Jorge Martin, Robert Montoya, Joseph Richard Negro, scott A peterson, Michael Raco-Rands, Marco Schindelmann, and Noah Thomas. Improvisational ensemble of electronic/laptop musicians in Long Beach. Starts at 8PM, $3.
Friday, January 16
Post-Post-Apocalypse: Beth Elliott: Reintegration @ The Loft. Dance with musical accompaniment by Martin Petersen. Grabe the art off the wall, get into it and rock out. Or just come and dance. Haven’t seen all the art/costumes/objects yet, but the one’s I’ve seen are amazing. Starts at 8 PM.
SCAPE: @ Bandit Gallery. Group show featuring Bobby Allen, Heather Blodgett, Kirk Driscoll, Ellen French, Lauren Lavitt, mactruQue, Judith Marcus, Madeline Peck, Jessica Seaton and Joan Weber. Reception is 7-10 PM.
Belladonna of Sadness> @ the Silent Movie Theatre. More Cinefamily midnight anime, featuring the 1973 classic. I’m not going to be there, but I wish I was. Starts at Midnight, $10. Trailer here.
Saturday, January 17
Post-Post-Apocalypse: Civilization @ The Loft. The finale of our project. With special guest DJ, VJ MkUltra, Lou Mannick on the saw, video by Vanessa Renwick (which is just beautiful), Clowns & Fetuses to close out the evening with thermin. Everyone who comes gets a complimentary commemorative T-shirt designed by Lisa Romero. Oh, and I’m serving Okonomiyaki, because I can, and because it’s awesome. Last chance to hang out in our secret shack. Starts at 7 PM, ends around 11.
14th Annual Hollywood Performance Marathon @ Theatre of NOTE. I’m pimping this because one of my old conspirators and a personal hero, wheelchair-bound sexual champion, poet, musician and 2008 presidential candidate Frank Moore is performing, a rarity in LA. 2PM – 12AM, $20 all day/night. I have no idea exactly when Frank is performing with his band.
Booth 1812 @ see line. How they fit these group shows into what must be LA’s smallest, most angled space, it’s a marvel. Featuring Kathrin Burmester, Anna Fidler, Xana Kudrjavcev-DeMilner, Chris Oatey, Ebony G. Patterson, Greg Santos, Zachary Stadel, Hiromi Takizawa, Ami Tallman and Maria von Köhler. Reception is 4-7 PM.
Beili Liu: Three Thousand Troubled Threads @ Tarryn Teresa Gallery. New space opening, check it out. Reception is 6-8 PM.
Sunday, January 18
Secret Final Post-Post-Apocalyptic Double Feature: Steve De Jarnatt Tribute @ The Loft. The afterparty, I guess. While researching apocalyptic films, we came across the fact that De Jarnatt only directed two films in his career, both with apocalyptic themes, the “Los Angeles plays itself”, “missiles are incoming” classic Miracle Mile, and the “you’ve seen it a 1000 times” sex robot desert search film Cherry 2000. So we’re gonna hang out in what remains of the house while we’ve still got the space and watch the two films back to back. Starts at 6 PM.Technorati
