Back on track. Been too busy with my own end of things to have any idea what’s happening in the outside world. Until now, that is.
Friday, September 12
Emerson vs. Nietzsche @ Cottage Home. Tantalizingly named group show featuring Tom Allen, Joyce Pensato, Mason Cooley, Raymond Pettibon, Mary Heilmann, Tia Pulitzer, Thomas Helbig, Jon Pylypchuk, Jutta Koether, Frances Stark, Sean Landers, David von Schlegell, JP Munro and Thomas Zipp. Reception is 6-9 PM.
“Sexy Schoolteacher” Triple Feature @ The Silent Movie Theatre. Part of the Cinefamily’s “When Cougars Attack” series. From their website – Picture the worst Police Academy jokes sifted through a bad Google translation and doused with predatory Guido sexuality, making them extra-uncomfortable. How can you argue with that? $10, starts at 10:15 PM.
Saturday, September 13
Meeting Modernity: Found Japanese Photography 1860-1920 @ Young Art (image at top). The first traveling show from Néojaponisme, this looks right up my alley. I don’t know about you, but I’m absolutely fascinated by photography from Japan in the 19th century. Reception is 7-10.
John Altoon: Drawings 1962-68 @ The Box. Altoon hovers over the LA art scene of the 1950′s and 60′s like a slightly mad saint, lost too young and but not forgotten. Great opportunity to see something rarely seen, here. Curated by Mara McCarthy. Reception is 6-8 PM.
Jorge Marin, Fracciones @ Couturier Gallery. Brutally staggering fragmentary revistiations of various sculptures from the Mexican master. Reception is 6-9 PM.
Sunday, September 14
August Sander: People of the Twentieth Century @ The Getty Center. Last day for this “your life will be devoid of meaning if you miss it” exhibition.
