After removing the top two cars, the whole sculpture was torn apart. Dustin Shuler’s Spindle is dead. This is the saddest day in public art ever. I can’t think of anything else to say.

I can’t believe it. I thought the whole ebay thing was a hoax, or publicity. They actually destroyed it with a backhoe in the middle of the night. To be replaced with a Walgreens. Because we don’t have enough of those. Amazing.

The Ebay thing was bizarre. I contacted the seller and the response he gave me was flip, unprofessional and didn’t answer my question at all. I still doubt that the Ebay auction was actually legitimate, and if it was, it was handled in a way that I believe was negligent and possibly intended to discourage or confuse potential buyers.

The artist’s name is DUSTIN, not Justin.

I don’t link to gallery sites for artists here (because the links die/change sometimes), I generally only link to either personal sites or Wikipedia pages when referencing an artist. Dustin should probably have a Wikipedia page, given that the Spindle has a page of its own.
