The light storage yard was/is across the street from where Jay's Jayburger used to be. I'm pretty sure it's a General Services facility.

City services people kept telling me that somewhere was a stash of historic light poles. I tried hard to get access to it and get some of those old poles re-installed for use here in SP, but struck out. Instead, they spend tons of cash on the new poles and because they were so expensive, they only went in to a very limited area. Everyone I had talked to had heard of the lamppost graveyard, but no one knew where it was or who had control over it.
So, on the one hand, this looks like a good art piece and I like it. On the other, it really pisses me off. Because those posts could have been used for their actual purpose, enhancing the streetscape and saving some budget money. I guess some people are more connected than others.

I know it's going to be a photographer's dream - so many opportunities for "in the poles" shots. I can't wait to bring a wide angle or a fisheye to it. And it feels very LA.

I'm getting really irritated with the Koons heavy BCAM. The banners, the egg, the train, Broad's Koons-heavy collection in general, etc... I'm kind of wondering "where's the LA" in all this, and the Burden piece is keeping my hope alive right now.

Thanks for the link Marshall. It's a pretty cool installation that definitely flirts with being over-the-top. I'm definitely gonna hit it again at some point if for no other reason than to walk amongst the poles. It was a members-only event last night so security wouldn't allow me to do so.
