Possibly the Most Appropriately Titled Piece in 21st Century Art

Damien Hirst - For the Love of God

I’m really not sure what to say about this object, For the Love of God, a cast platinum skull, covered in diamonds, with real teeth, by Damien Hirst. It fits right in line with my personal philosophy of “the need to create things that need to exist.” It also frightens me on an art historical level that I cannot articulate. It goes on display at White Cube in London this Sunday, and it’s for sale at an even £50,000,000.

  • You know, I don’t really get this as an object, given the current zeitgeist. I mean, there are skulls on EVERYTHING from little girls’ socks to lunch boxes, and this was happening before the Pirates Movie tie-in. It’s like a fucking plague of jolly rogers, even in the art world.

Fifty mil is kinda spendy for an object that’s been played.

Too bad he couldn’t work the Jackalope angle and call it the relic of some suitably Liberace-like saint.

  • Personally, I’m fond of the skulls on everything motif, but I think it’s being done in a very boring way. I wanna see pseudo-Aztec, paisley ties, not another faux-pirate t-shirt design.

  • mugga a wug..
I’m a brilliant businessman. Fuck art.
    I love you..
