I’m going to presume that this tape was given away with Happy Meals or in some other unpleasant manner thrust upon the virgin ears of tender young girls and boys. Released on the Rhino Kids label, which I can only presume is a morality-free black hole of closet pedophiles, based upon their willingness to participate in anything involving this yellow clad, Willard Scott descended beast.
I really like the way that this tape is presented to the public. The front cover is designed to look like a magical radio, one where McDonalds’ programming is eternally on. A fun world where Ronald and his assorted burger pushers work together to wrap you in a warm bun of audio comfort. Like WKRP in Cincinati, but with Howard Hesseman (the hip Head of the Class teacher) replaced by a red afroed clown in a jumpsuit.
The audio content of the tape is extremely disconcerting. Side A consists of a Halloween themed radio show, with all of the voices being provided by the colourful cast of McDonaldland characters. It’s a brutal assault on the senses, and something that no child should ever be exposed to. The B Side continues the radio show, but introduces a cast of costumed children, singing songs and playing a dumb-as-shit game involving the cast of children saying “boo” whenever they hear a bell. Obviously it’s intended to function as an introduction to the indoctrination to the Pavlovian response McDonalds hopes to burn into them, forcing them to respond to his image and voice by going immediately to the nearest McDonalds and eating their “food”.

I used to have a different one of these, with a song by Grimmace called “I Like To Scare Myself”. It was pretty bad, I don’t know why I would’ve gotten rid of it…

OK the Boo game is really dumb, but it might be fun to play in real life. Oh I know a good joke that would work perfectly with that game. Here it goes… “What kind of bees make milk? Give up? BUZZ Bees” (Note: replace BUZZ with Boo) Anyway I actually like the breakdown rap portion when the kids are on drum and bass, not like the Casio Tones did any better.

I can’t tell you how grateful I am that you posted this tape online. I have the entire tape set but over the years they have become warped from heat and unplayable.
My children loved these tapes. They brought back so many tearful memories for us today.
I know the tapes are cheesy, but it really was wonderful and empowering for our kids when we put these tapes in and they felt the radio had turned magical into things they wanted to hear.
On our way on endless fall days of adventure, to pumpkin farms… Trick or Treating at the haunted louisville zoo…or a halloween parade.
Every happy moment suddenly came into our hearts as these played for us today.
Children grow..they grow so very fast.
Those moments are forever wrapped in the moments we made together.
So in a way this is a magical radio..
It brought me back to that moment.
I only wish you had the others for us.
Thank you.
